Are we living in Drakenstein dreamland?

Are we living in Drakenstein dreamland?

2005-08-25

RECENTLY we have had a strike action in this beautiful valley of ours. The actions by some of the strikers really is questionable but so be it.
What I would like to know is the question of service delivery. As a ratepaying resident I pay a monthly fee for refuse collection. This amounts to R95.87 per month.
I presume the Drakenstein Municipality will charge according to services rendered. You see during August the refuse was not collected for a week.
I take note of the apology printed in the Paarl Post, but this is not enough.
Should I, as a business person, be contracted to the Municipality to deliver certain services and I only fulfill part of the obligation, there is no way the Municipality will pay for the whole contract.
I wonder if I am not living in dreamland by asking this question?

Colin

A municipal spokesman comments: It is true that the refuse removal was halted over a number of days, but the service was continued after the strike.
The public was invited to put out additional bags to catch up on the backlog, and the service was rendered, although a few days late.
It must also benoted that the refuse tariff is in payment not only of the actual removal, but also for the refuse removal system in general, including the dumping site, sweeping of streets, etc.
