Dining in the dark

2009-09-10

A CELEBRATION of 200 years of braille will be celebrated on 16 October at 18:00 at the Provence reception hall in Wellington where dinner will be held in the dark.

Dinners where an entire course is served in the dark, have only ever been done in South Africa by Provence. The dinner is combined with an auction of beautiful paintings done by visually impaired pupils and also on auction will be estate wines in bottles with Braille mouldings in the bottle which are, and will remain, the only ones of this kind in the world!

The choir and musicians of the Institute for the Blind will entertain guests and also take part as waitrons for the serving of the dinner. World renowned authority on Braille, Michael Mellor and Dr William Rowland, former international president of the World Union of the Blind will do presentations.

It is only during occasions such as these, that you realise the value of your gift of sight, and that you can contribute to the financial burden carried daily by the School for the Visually Impaired and the Institute for the Blind, offering training of international standards to these individuals. Tickets for the dinner cost R200. Book at Provence on 021-864-1758.
