Basketball league kicks off

THE Winelands Basketball Lea-gue is off and running. Last year’s Delta Trust Basketball League officially chan- ged its name to the Winelands Basketball League at the start of the 2009 season. The league has jumped from five teams in the senior division last year to 12 teams this year. The primary school division added two Franschhoek teams, Groendal Primary and Franschhoek High School. New Orleans Secondary, Klein Nederburg Secondary, Noorder Paarl Secondary, Bridges of Hope Academy, Drakenstein Prison (Juveniles), Desmond Tutu and Ligstraal, have all been added to the top division this year. Teams who would like to enter for the 2010 league, can contact 084-259-0920. Games are played around the Boland on Thursdays. The season’s match results so far, are: * Primary School: Wemmers-hoek 9, FHS 8; PC Petersen 14, Groendal 6. * Senior Gold Divison: New Orleans 21, Kayamandi 17; Desmond Tutu 40, Drakenstein Daredevils 18; Klein Nederburg 39, Drakenstein Dragonheat 20; NO 47, Desmond Tutu 26; Kayamandi 40, Dragonheat 19; KN 43, Daredevils 33; NO 49, Daredevils 48. * Senior Silver Division: Prison Juvies 40, Kylemore 38; Noorder Paarl 23, Bridges of Hope 11; Paarl School of Skills 32, Ligstraal 20; Prison Juvies 44, PSS 17; NP 40, Ligstraal 18; Kylemore 37, Bridges of Hope 10; NP 29, PSS 19.
