THE second play in the 5th Artscape Spring Drama Season will be Outodidak written by master Afrikaans playwright, Schalk Schoombie.
Schoombie, a former editor of De Kat magazine, has written other works for the stage including Gesplete Tong, Wetters and the musical Blootlę, which he wrote in collaboration with songwriter Herman van den Berg and played to great acclaim at the Aardklop Festival in 2003. Outodidak will be presented at the Artscape Arena from 8 to 24 October and is a satirical work that plays havoc with the pretensions of “self-realisation” and the self-appointed “pop life-philosophers” of our time.
Lubbe, an orphan who has become extremely wealthy cannot sleep. Yvette, his wife, makes an appointment for him with Stols, a smooth salesman, who becomes a specialist guru on demand.
The play is directed by well-known Afrikaans writer and director, Gideon van Eeden and stars Jeroen Kranenburg, Geon Nel and Bronwyn van Graan.
The play has two low price previews on 8 and 9 October at 20:15. There are two family shows on Tuesday 13 and 20 October starting at 19:00. Booking is at Computicket or Artscape Dial-A-Seat on 021-421-7695.
