R100 000 make-over

R100 000 make-over

ONE of America’s most watched television home designers, Mark Brunetz (known worldwide as the interior designer on the Style Network’s Emmy nominated series Clean House), surprised a Paarlite last week with a home make-over worth R100 000.

Amanda van Wyk of Hendrika Street in Paarl North could not believe her luck.

She was one of thousands across the country who entered a fundraising SMS campaign to win a ‘R100 000 Room Make-over Package’, designed by Brunetz, as part of the Design Without Borders project.

“It took me one SMS,” a smiling Amanda said. Amanda, who loves entering competitions, says this is the biggest prize she has ever won.

Amanda, who chose her braai and living area to be decorated, said that taking part in competitions is a hobby for her, but she could not believe her luck this time.

“They phoned me on Sunday telling me that I was one of the finalists. Then Mark phoned me telling me I was the winner. I could not sleep on Sunday evening, I’m so excited.”

Design Without Borders, a US based project in partnership with South African corporations Builders Warehouse and Furnish Homestyle, designated the head office of the Big Issue (a publication sold by jobless people), located on New Market Street, Woodstock, as the main goodwill make-over recipient of this project.
