POPULAR soprano Sabina Mossolow and accomplished pianist Elna van der Merwe will present Wine, Women and Song at 17:00 in the Nederburg Manor House on 25 October – the penultimate recital in the 2009 Nederburg Concert Series.
The musicians promise to take the audience on a trip of discovery into the world of wine in song and operetta.
The duo will perform songs by Verdi and Rossini around the theme of wine, as well as art songs by women composers such as Fanny Mendelssohn-Hensel, Clara Schumann and Alma Mahler, and songs by the South African composer Rosa Nepgen, in commemoration of the centenary of her birth. Mossolow will also enchant the audience with operetta arias by Heuberger, Lehár and Johann Strauss, including the Schwipslied from Eine Nacht in Venedig and the ever popular Csárdas from Die Fledermaus.
“When we perform at Nederburg, nothing can be more ‘intune’ with the ambience than to mirror the wine theme in songs and operetta,” said Mossolow. Tickets are R125 per person and includes a delicious light supper served with fine Nederburg wines. Bookings can be made with Irma Albers on 021-809-8106 or Sonja Morkel on 021-809-8344 or e-mail ialbers@distell.co.za.
