Festival with Black Bafanas

Festival with Black Bafanas

2009-10-22

THE traditional music group, Mbekweni Black Bafanas, will be hosting their annual Cultural Festival on Saturday 24 October at the Thusong Centre in Mbekweni.

This project is part of the group’s development programme known as Masipakamise Cultural Programme to educate through arts and achieve music literacy.

In alignment to these strategic objectives the group on the day will conduct free educational workshops on different genres of traditional music. The group will also be introducing their second album to the public by singing four songs from the CD.

The highlight of the day will be a performance by a group of young boys that are mentored by Mbekweni Black Bafanas in partnership with the Breytenbach Centre in Wellington.

To ensure that à capella music forms part of the school curriculum the group recruited students from Ihlumelo Primary School, Langabuya and Mbekweni Higher Primary to form part of this choral group called Abanumzana (Gentlemen). It is derived from the responsible life that à capella artists ought to lead which is a matter of principle to all members of the group.

Tickets for the concert are R25, available from members of Mbekweni Black Bafanas. Bookings can also be made at the Breytenbach Centre. The CD of the Mbekweni Black Bafanas will also be on sale for R100.
