MORE than 120 exhibitors will take part in the 67th all new Bien Donné Agricultural Expo from 5 to 7 November on the Bien Donné farm in Simondium, outside Paarl. The Minister of Agriculture, Tina Joemat-Petterson, will open the Expo at 12:00 on 5 November and a number of other dignitaries will also attend, including the CEO of AgriSA, Johannes Moller. This event is now organised by Kunene Multi-Media, who received a three year contract organising this event. “This is a real challenge to do something new and we have a few new ideas up our sleeves,” said Rashaad Carlsen, organiser of the event which takes place under the auspices of the Agricultural Research Council (ARC). The event will feature agricultural equipment, a Farmers’ Indaba marquee where discussions will take place, a large display of vehicles suitable to farming (bakkies, quad bikes and motor cycles), as well as a fresh produce market and nursery. Activities like an activity dog show, paintball, target shooting, quad rides and a wide range of foods will be part of the 2009 showcase. The event will also feature a daily lifestyle programme for ladies, featuring the Saturday Ladies’ Breakfast, which will be a stylish event that starts at 09:30. The guest speaker will be Liesel Krause-Wiid, previous editor of Finesse. Prizes will be given to the most elegant ladies. Daily programmes will include make-overs, cosmetics, cookery and jewellery demonstrations. The surrounding communities will be participating in the entertainment on offer. The Delta Blue band and Krummeltjie Parade will participate, as well as the Groendal Steel Band from Franschhoek. Live broadcasts from the event will take place daily. Solly Philander will be there on the Thursday, Good Hope on the Friday and RSG on the Saturday. A new feature of the event will be a craft market for local artists inside and a tea garden outside the historic manor house, De Watergat. The tea garden will have freshly baked bread baked in a traditional outside oven, with children’s entertainment.
