TWO people drowned on farms in the area last week.
On Monday evening last week a man drowned in a trout dam at Cape Olive Farm.
A Zimbabwean national, Luckmore Chibanda, who had been working for the fishery, was busy helping colleagues doing adjustments on a barge in the water, when he fell in.
He sank under the water and his friends were unable to save him. Police divers later recovered his body from the dam.
On Friday afternoon a memorial service was held for Shibanda at Cape Olives.
* At Schoongezicht farm, also in Klein Drakenstein, Jacobus Sheldon drowned while picking Waterblommetjies. It is suspected that he had a heart attack while working in the dam.
) A man was sentenced to eight years in prison following the murder of a Paarlite in May.
The body of Mattheus van Schalkwyk (40) was found in the backyard of a house in Verster Street, Paarl. He had been stabbed several times in the chest.
Paarl policie detectives followed up information which led them to Randolph Joshua.
He was sentenced last week in the Paarl regional court.
