Community campus planned in Paarl South
2009-10-22
AN impact study on the proposed development of a community campus and worship centre on the farm Montana, adjacent to Courtrai Primary in Paarl South, is currently under way.
Courtrai Developments is proposing to rezone and develop the south-eastern portion of the farm into a development to be known as the Montana community campus. The lower portion of the farm (16 hectares) is already zoned for single residential purposes, but falls outside the urban edge. The upper portion of the farm will retain its agricultural zoning and land use, while the lower portion will be developed into a community campus and retirement village of about 180 units with a health care factility. The multi-functional community centre will include a 3000 seat auditorum which will be used for public gatherings as well as sport and recreational activities such as gymnastics and netball. It will also include a religious centre, administrative facilities, a primary school (that will also be used as Sunday school), and commercial opportunities. These include a coffee shop, restaurant, premises for health care practitioners, book shop and deli. According to Paarl businessman Anton Moller of Molco (who was involved in the redevelopment of the Protea Cinema as a worship centre), the profits from the residential and commercial components are intended to subsidise the proposed community faciltiites.
