New winemaker appointed

WINEMAKER. Nederburg’s newest cellar team member is Wilhelm Pienaar (30), who has been appointed to make the winery’s red wines under the direction of Razvan Macici. He takes up the position after spending two years in France, where he obtained an M Sc in viticulture, oenology and marketing from the esteemed University of Montpellier. He succeeds Wim Truter, who is studying now in France. Pienaar, who also holds a master's degree in viticulture from the University of Stellenbosch, was p[reviously cellarmaster of JC le Roux. He has worked harvests in the south of France, in Champagne, Rheingau in Germany and has travelled extensively through the winemaking areas of Italy, Spain and Greece.
