THEIR calm behaviour and faith probably kept two victims of an armed robbery unscathed. This was the opinion of one of the victims, Ilse Ferreira, who together with her colleague, Ané Basson, was held up by armed men at the Pink Geranium nursery in Franschhoek two weeks ago. Ferreira and Basson were busy in the shop, when they saw four men wandering around the premises. “When I approached them and asked if I could help them, one man pulled out a firearm. He forced me back inside the shop and demanded money and for me to open the safe. “I told him that there is no safe on the property and he didn’t believe me. I opened the door to the kitchen, to show him that there is no safe. They forced me and Ané into the kitchen and closed the door.” The men then fled with R2000, as well as two cellphones. A massive man-hunt followed, leading to the arrest of four suspects in Langrug, Franschhoek, early ons Tuesday morning last week. The suspects have also been linked to two robberies at Somalian shops in Groendal the day before their arrest. A search is continuing for a fifth suspect. * On Monday morning a bread lorry was pulled over on the Wemmershoek Road near Oude Molen. The driver was held at gun point by six men and robbed of almost R7000 in cash. The men then fled in the direction of Paarl in a black BMW and Toyota RunX. Anybody with information can contact Franschhoek detective chief, Insp Leon Boonzaaier, on 021-876-8066.
