IF you think the violin and cello can only play classical music, come and enjoy the concert of the Trio Fantastik and Friends at the Paarl Police College hall on Friday 30 October at 20:00, a benefit concert for the Frank Pietersen Music Centre.
Back by popular demand, this versatile group of professional musicians (violin, cello and jazz piano, combined with bass guitar, drumkit and jazz vocalist) will once again have the Paarl Police College hall rocking, with music ranging from “Bach Air (Jazz)” to “Dream a Little Dream” and from “Manenberg” to “Da’ innie Pêrel”.
This group will show that the traditional string instruments can play light classical music, contemporary pop, R&B and jazz songs and will have the audience dancing in their seats to “Blue Bossa”, “One Note Samba”, “Boesman Tango”, “Fallen” and “Weekend Special”.
Two trio members, Hadley Duminy (violin) and Lara Block (cello), are both teachers at the Frank Pietersen Music Centre. They combine with Lester le Roux (piano) to form this unique trio. They are joined by a drummer and bass guitarist.
Popular Cape Town jazz singer Esperanzia will add the cherry on top when she joins the group for some of the jazz numbers.
Tickets cost R50 and bookings can be made at the Frank Pietersen Music Centre in Sanddrift Street or on 021-872-2123/4 or at Musiklood in Main Street. Tickets will also be available at the door.
