THE King of Ghoema Jazz, Mac McKenzie, will be playing at the Saturday Sunset Supper Concert at Solms-Delta on 7 November.
McKenzie is no stranger to Cape Town audiences and is best known as guitarist with The Genuines, The Ghoema Captains and The District Six Band.
More recently he has become a motivating force in the Composer’s Workshop, an initiative to nurture young musicians, drawing on Cape Town’s musical heritage in order to stimulate new styles of music.
Described as a Ghoema hero and a national music gem, the supper concert is the perfect setting to enjoy the sounds of this Cape music maestro.
The Saturday supper concerts run from 18:00 to 20:30 and will be running until 27 February with a break for the festive season.
The programme consists of an eight week feast of local Afro and Cape jazz and gospel flavours up to 19 December. It will be repeated in the new year from 9 January.
Tickets including a ‘Kaapse kos’ buffet catering for all tastes is R150 (R35 for children).
