Local canoeists show off talent

THE second WCCU Junior Canoeing Triple Sprint Series event took place in Paarl recently, with local canoeists performing extremely well. The top canoeists from Paarl were undoubtedly Michael Lee Farringer (boys u.16, Bridge House), Bradley Ruiters (boys u.14, Paarl Cano Club), Martine Beukes (girls u.14, Bridge House), Jean van der Westhuysen (boys u.12, Bridge House) and Rebecca Meihuizen (girls u.10, Bridge House), claiming first position in all the categories (1000m; 500m; 200m; LD) they competed in. Other canoeists from Paarl, who performed well, were: Boys u.10 - Kelvin Swanepoel (1st), Thomas Pretorius (2nd), Luc van der Westhuyzen (3rd; All from Bridge House). Girls u.12 - Marion van Zyl (2nd; Paarl CC). Boys u.12 - Peter Meihuizen (2nd); Andreas Beukes (3rd); Nicholas Howes (4th; All from Bridge House). Boys u.14 - David Meihuizen (3rd; Bridge House). Boys u.16 - Danie Buys (2nd); Daniel Pretorius (3rd; both from Bridge House). Boys u.18 - Emile Minnaar (3rd); Nicholas de Villiers (3rd; both from Paarl CC). Men u.23 - Chrisjan Coetzee (2nd; Paarl CC).
