There were also a number of apologies. The history of the Arboreum was outlined by Mrs Abie Martin. Municipal official Albert van der Merwe then informed the meeting about the Drakenstein Municipality’s role regarding the Arboretum as well as about an in-depth study that has been made about the future development of the Arboretum. Regarding the current priority of making the Arboretum safe, it was pointed out that the cost of a full-time patrol far exceeds the current municipal budget for the Arboretum. Michele Clift handed out a questionnaire on which those in attendance could express their interest in the Association and make suggestions. A copy of the questionnaire can be obtained from mclift@mweb.co.za. A further public meeting is planned for the end of November or the first week of December. Uwe Strack
