I was pleasantly surprised when a stranger - someone I know in passing - did a wonderful thing for me and my son.
My son (13) lost his phone last Sunday afternoon. It fell out of his pocket while skateboarding. As he only missed it hours later, we knew there was no use in looking for it. Someone must have picked it up.
We were right.
That night before bedtime, I asked him how he felt about losing his phone. Very sure of himself he answered, “I’m gonna get it back, because I prayed about it”.
The next day, while driving home from school, the Pakistani man that fixed my son’s phone months ago, phoned me. He informed me that he had my phone. The people that picked it up tried to sell it to him.
When he opened it though, he saw his personalised sticker inside and remembered us. He looked up our contact details in his records and phoned me.
He kept the phone, telling the people who had picked it up to bring some proof that it was theirs. He then went to the police with this information and left the phone there.
To make a long story short: I went to the police with him, showed them my proof of purchase and got my son’s phone back. He did not want any reward.
I will NEVER again underestimate the power of a child’s prayer and the goodness of a stranger’s heart.
