Craft workshop for 2010 World Cup
2009-11-19
WINELANDS craft producers will soon enjoy free inspirational workshops on how to maximise business opportunities around the 2010 soccer bonanza. A free workshop will be held in Wellington at the Breytenbach Centre on Monday 23 November at 14:00 by the Cape Craft and Design Institute’s rural outreach officer, Craig Carbutt. He has developed a highly informative presentation on the football event, based on the regulations set up by FIFA and ideas around developing products that speak to the place they are made in. “Many craft producers want to maximize the opportunities around the World Cup, but are unsure of how to go about it,” said Craig. “We want to share our research and help craft producers to grow their markets now and in the long term, while avoiding expensive mistakes. “It is vital to understand that FIFA has many limitations and strict penalties regarding its logo and key event-related words. Craft producers may not, for example, use “2010” or “Twenty Ten” on their products in combination with words such as “Soccer”, “Football”, “South Africa”, “RSA”, and “World Cup”.” Carbutt said the CCDI set up in 2001 by the Province and the Cape Peninsula University of Technology, offered numerous ongoing support programmes and services for craft producers. These ranged from a monthly newsletter to training and market access programmes. “We have the ability to assist craft producers to improve their products and abilities in up-scaling their enterprises. We are here to help and would like to hear from you.” Contact Craig at craig.carbutt@ccdi.org.za or on 021-461-1488 or on 083-205-0269 to attend the free workshop.
