Global wine tourism award for Grande Provence

Global wine tourism award for Grande Provence

2009-11-19

HOT on the heels of the prestigious ‘House & Leisure/Visa Best of SA Awards’ where the 5-star Grande Provence Heritage Wine Estate, Franschhoek, won the title of Best Hotel in South Africa, the Estate has now been voted by global wine tourism experts as the Best in the Architectural Category at the Great Wine Capitals Global Network gala awards ceremony in Bordeaux.

The event was attended by tourism specialists, dignitaries and producers from wine-growing regions in Europe, North America, Latin America, South Africa and New Zealand.

The ‘Best Of’ winery tourism awards were created in 2004 to honour outstanding wineries as well as other wine tourism-related businesses in several categories in the member cities and wine regions of the Great Wine Capitals Global Network. The awards are recognised as an industry-wide benchmark for excellence.

Comments spokesperson Rykie van Tonder, “Grande Provence is an experience of the senses, inviting guests and day visitors to enjoy the distinctive ambience, history, architecture, unparalleled picturesque setting and award winning cuisine paired with the Estate’s famous collection of wines – it truly is a journey.”

While the 18th Century Manor House and The Owner’s Cottage reflect their Huguenot heritage, The Restaurant and wine-tasting areas of Grande Provence project a chic industrial presence.

New Zealand based interior designer, Virginia Fisher explains, “In essence, Grande Provence is an estate of senses, providing guests with a full working farm experience, with spaces to be used and spaces to be admired, and these expanses of space allow us to do that. The two design styles are harmonised by a complementary palette, but time separates them.”

The Estate boasts accommodation in the Owner’s Cottage, as well as a restaurant, gallery, sculpture garden and shop.

Grande Provence Heritage Wine Estate is a sister property to Huka Lodge in New Zealand and Dolphin Island in Fiji, which are part of The Huka Retreats exclusive properties.
