KYKNET and Backsberg Estate Cellars are thrilled to introduce a new live music series in the Cape winelands.
The series, which runs every Sunday afternoon from 29 November to 31 January brings a superb musical line-up of South Africa’s best-loved artists to Backsberg.
Audiences can anticipate sunset acoustic performances from the likes of Koos Kombuis, Valiant Swart, aKING, Lize Beekman, Gert Vlok Nel and many more.
South Africa’s legendary rock and folk singer, Valiant “Die Mystic Boer” Swart, will be kicking the stellar line-up into full swing on 29 November, along with his trademark acoustic guitar and harmonica.
With over 3000 local and international performances under his belt, this is a fine-tuned showman not to be missed.
Multi-talented musical icon Koos Kombuis will perform on 6 December. Kombuis became famous as part of a group of anti-establishment maverick Afrikaans musicians, who, under the collective name of Voëlvry (meaning “Outlawed”), toured campuses across South Africa in the 1980’s.
With influences including Bob Dylan, Neil Young and George Harrison, audiences can look forward to the poignant lyrics and raw style that have made him the guru of Afrikaans rock music.
Cape Town based band aKING brings you a fresh new sound that is an eclectic mix of foot-tapping beats and dynamically blended musical styles.
With previous performances described as intense and relentless, this acoustic set is definitely one to see. Join them on 13 December. On 20 December you can see acclaimed singer and songwriter, Lize Beekman, entertaining audiences with her enchanting voice and beautiful melodies.
Beekman, a much-loved and well -respected artist has won numerous awards for her work both locally and internationally.
The talented singer and poet Gert Vlok Nel will round off the month on 27 December with his invigorating performance.
Nel writes innovative Afrikaans lyrics – experimenting with sounds and hypnotising the crowd with his hauntingly honest portrayal of South Africa and its people.
KykNET and Backsberg Estate Cellars offer the perfect summer outing of leisurely afternoon spent with family and friends. Be sure to pack your umbrella, picnic blankets and cooler boxes.
Tickets are R85 pre-booked (Computicket) or R100 at the gate (free for children under 12). Admission to concert venue starts at 15:00 while the set itself will begin at 17:00.
