2005-09-01
DURING the annual Learning Festival, the AgriSETA (SETA for Primary and Secondary Agriculture) showcased the Colors Group for their role in Skills Development to the benefit of employees.
Colors was also selected due to their positive implementation of the Fruit Packaging Learnership (the first learnership in secondary agriculture) and active participation in Skills Development within the fruit industry as a whole.
At Novo Packhouse in Paarl the first learnership in the Western Cape was implemented for the National Certificate in Fruit Packing and Grading processes.
This SetaSA learnership is the first empowerment initiative that provides an opportunity to obtain a qualification within the fruit industry.
The learnership gives workers at all levels an opportunity to participate and the first batch of 17 learners is enthusiastic about the course.
The course consists of 30% academic classroom training and of 70% OBE (outcomes-based education) within the workplace.
The qualification is registered at level 3 on the National Qualifications Framework and provides learners with the opportunity to obtain competence in broad fruit packing and grading processes. The focus is on skills, knowledge, value and attitude, and releasing the potential of people. Achieving the qualification will also add value to the workplace.
