THE crowds at Solms-Delta’s Rural Music Supper concert on 28 November will be entertained by Oom Jakobus and Tannie Hester Cloete with their own special style of Cape vernacular music.
Born to a musical family in Namaqualand, Jakobus first learned to play the sheepgut-string ‘ramkietjie’ and later, the guitar.
He and his sister Hester will play and sing their original traditional story-telling songs that he calls ‘heritage songs’ – that resonate with his childhood in the Sandveld – and are so much an intrinsic part of the musical heritage of the Cape.
The Saturday supper concerts are from 18:00 to 20:30 and run until 27 February with a break for the festive season and include a feast of local Afro and Cape jazz and gospel flavours.
Tickets, including a ‘Kaapse kos’ buffet catering for all tastes, cost R150 (R65 for children)
