The Grand Finale

The Grand Finale

2009-11-26

Jaco van Wyk

THE skills and drama displayed during the semi-finals of the Mayoral Cup Soccer tournament this past weekend, set the stage beautifully for the grand finale to take place at the Mbekweni Stadium on Saturday.

Only the best football on the day will determine 2009’s champions, with the only certainty for the main encounter being the fact that the victors will hail from the kingdom of soccer, Mbekweni.

There is absolutely no doubt that the two teams to come face to face in the final on Saturday, are both worthy and deserved contenders for the coveted trophy, as both Mbekweni United and City Killers thrashed their respective opponents in the semi-final matches.

With their 9-1 demolition of Juventus at the Mbekweni Stadium on Sunday, no one deserves a place in the finals more than the Safa Vodacom League team, Mbekweni United.

Then again City Killers won’t be short of confidence, as they also claimed a convincing 4-1 victory over Barcelona in the other semi-final match.

Other games to be decided this coming Saturday, will be the finals of the u.13’s, u.15’s, u.17’s, as well as the ladies’ teams.

These teams took the stage this past Saturday for their semi-final matches at the Boy Louw Sports grounds.

The results were as follows:

* u.13 - All Stars 1, Mbekweni Cosmos 0; Eleven Ideas 4, Mbekweni United 2.

* u.15 - Paarl Soccer Club 1, Eleven Ideas 0; Mbekweni United 2, Paarl United 0.

* u.17 - Mbekweni Cosmos 3, Paarl Soccer Club 1; Paarl United 3, Mbekweni United 0.

* Ladies - Lady Hawk 2, Wellchester 0; Paarl United 1; Paarl Ladies 0.
