Boland athletes awarded

THE 2009 Boland Sports Awards Function took place in the Stellenbosch Town Hall on Thursday 26 November. During this event, the sporting achievements of more than 20 sporting codes during the 2009 season were honoured. Due to other commitments, the Western Cape Minister of Sport, Sakkie Jenner, could not attend the 2009 Boland Sports Awards Function. A message from the Western Cape Minister of Sport was read instead. In his letter, special mention was made of Boland Athletics as the current Western Cape Federation of the Year and its successes in 2009. According to Jenner, Boland Athletics, for the past year, was a worthy holder of the title Western Cape Federation of the Year title. At the 2009 Boland Sports Awards Function, Boland Athletics was honoured by the Boland Sports Council in the following categories: Best Sportsman of the season - Cornel Fredericks; Best Sportswoman of the season - Janet Wienand; Best Junior Sportsman of the season - Luvo Manyonga; Most promising junior athlete - Stefan Brits; Best Coach of the season - Cyril Lawless.
