Another spin of the wheel...
2009-12-03
TELLING your son that spinning wheels occasionally is acceptable, is criminal. It’s teaching your child a lack of respect for the law and for others around him. What other laws is he allowed to break? Where do you draw the line? As you suggest, allowing a child to experiment is good, but it should be under controlled circumstances and with knowledge of the consequences. Is it OK to experiment with drugs? A young boy that drives like that does not have more experience and driving ability than most people on the roads. Experience and driving ability come virtually always from time behind the wheel. A crime is a crime and committing a crime makes one a criminal. Mamma wat weet, I’m not judging you, I too was stupid once, I made the same mistakes and more from good luck than good judgement, my son survived. Children die on the roads every day because they think, reinforced by “mamma’s” approval, that they are good drivers and can do as they wish. For every action there are consequences – teach your child that. A visit to the headmaster’s office and an emotionally destructive comment is a minor consequence compared to a criminal record, killing someone or being killed. Brian
