Songs of the Cape at supper concert
2009-12-10
LISTEN to the songs of the Cape with the Cape Malay choir Nag- troepe on Saturday 12 December at the Rural Cape Music Supper Concert at Solms-Delta. The vibrant Cape Malay community has always been an intrinsic part of what makes up the unique character of the Cape. Bo Kaap and bobotie may quickly come to mind, but so too, the spirit and vitality of a Cape Malay choir belting out original Dutch folk songs on a warm summer evening. The celebration of music with the vocal ensemble and an opening performance by the popular local Papier Family Langarm Orkes, will get toes tapping and set the stage for everyone to enjoy a balmy evening and leisurely supper in the Winelands, listening to the special music of the rural Cape. The Saturday supper concerts are from 18:00 to 20:30 and run until 27 February with a break for the festive season and consist of a feast of local Afro and Cape jazz and gospel flavours. Entry is R150, including a ‘Kaapse kos’ buffet catering for all tastes, and R65 for children. On 19 December and 9 January Nonspesifiek performs atmospheric music, mixing Afrikaans, jazz and rock sounds with indigenous music. For bookings, contact Annalize on 021-874-3937.
