A CAR, a soccer ball, a doll, toiletries and games are just some of the Christmas wishes of disadvantaged children within the Drakenstein area.
As Christmas is a season of giving, Paarl Mall and the Rotary Club of Drakenstein joined hands in 2006 to make a child’s Christmas wish come true by giving them a Christmas gift.
The Tree of Joy was started with the décor of the Christmas tree made up of name tags. Listed on the name tag is a child’s name, gender, age, the child’s Christmas wish and the name of the institution or organisation that represents the child.
The public can open their hearts this Christmas to a total stranger and choose a name from the tree, buy the gift, wrap it, attach the name tag to the gift and drop it into the collection box before or on Sunday 20 December.
The collection box is situated next to the Tree of Joy in the Mall near the information desk.
The gifts will be dropped off at the various institutions before Christmas.
The institutions that will benefit are Bowy House, Norsa, Island of Hope, Butterfly House (Hospice) and Vrymansfontein (ACVV).
This year with the help of the public about 700 children will receive a gift.
Last year 500 gifts were delivered to the various institutions and organisations.
