Track cycling at Faure Street

CYCLISTS and cycling enthusiasts can prepare themselves for some exciting track cycling in Paarl over the Festive Season. The Neotel Yorkshire Cycling Club will host its annual Festive Season track cycling event on Saturday 19 December at the Faure Street Stadium in Paarl. Races for all categories will be on the action packed programme. The crowds will be entertained with racing from under 10 level to veterans. On the day a guaranteed prize fund of R10 000 will be up for grabs. The top cyclists will definitely ensure for some fast and exciting racing in the main event of the day, the 25 Mile (40 km) race, where there will also be a substantial prize purse for the winners. Some of the other events cyclists will take part in, are the elimination and points races that will also keep the crowds on the edge of their seats. To ensure that the development of the sport is ongoing, the club will also host events for development/beginner cyclists on the day. Youngsters can participate with any kind of bicycle and only need to have a racing helmet. This is a fantastic sport for kids to participate in and track cycling ensures a safe environment for them. Parents are encouraged to bring their children and join in an exciting day at the stadium. The event will start at 14:00 and the stadium gates will open at 12:00. Cyclists can enter on the day from 12:30. The gate fee for spectators is R10 (R5 for children). The Neotel Yorkshire Track Cycling Event is also a great build-up for the annual Boxing Day cycling event on 26 December at the same venue. The top track cyclists will also be in action at a two day Madison event at the Bellville Velodrome on 15 and 16 December.
