I would like to warn people who use the ATM of Standard Bank at Noorder-Paarl Spar to be very cautious about using this facility.
On 7 November at 11:50 I attempted to withdraw R500 from the machine and was only given R300, this in full view of the staff and of my daughter who accompanied me.
I asked that something be done to reimburse me the R200 and was told to phone 086-001-2345 for help and I was informed that only my branch could deal with it.
On the Monday morning I was told by the bank the sum I had requested was given to me by the bank in full by the ATM. Well it certainly wasn’t me!
A large cardboard sign attached to the top of the ATM (handwritten) advises everyone to check their money.
Obviously someone is fiddling with the machine. It would be interesting to hear if anyone else has experienced problems at this place?
It should be closed down if the bank is not prepared to accept the word of a customer of over 40 years standing who has never had this happen in all the years, with due care a genuine complaint.

Erik Larsen, media spokesperson for Standard Bank replies: Standard Bank investigates every ATM claim that it receives. Should Mrs Smith have been shortpaid by the ATM this will come out during the investigation.
Mrs Smith needs to go to her closest Standard Bank branch to complete a claim form. This will then be forwarded to our ATM claims unit. Once their investigation has been completed, they will inform Mrs Smith of the outcome.
The issue of the notice near the ATM machine will also be investigated as a matter of priority.
