Donate blood this spring
2005-09-08
MAKE a contribution to life this spring by donating blood. After a combination of winter ailments and cold and rainy weather, Paarlites are invited to shake off there winter jackets and roll up there sleeves to donate blood.
Anyone who weighs more than 52 kg, is older than 17 years, is healthy and who leads a safe lifestyle can be a blood donor.
You will be required to complete a confidential health questionnaire which is done in the interest of the donor and as well as the patient receiving the blood to eliminate the changes of transfusion transferable infections.
Your iron level will be tested by means of the “finger-prick” method and your blood pressure is also taken.
Once the tests are successfully completed a sister will draw one unit of blood (450 ml) from a vein in your arm.
Two vials are also taken for testing (Syphilis, Hepatitis B and C and HIV) and confirmation of blood groups. After testing the blood is issued to the various blood banks around the Western Province.
Donors are welcome to come and celebrate spring with the Blood Transfusion Service in Paarl (next to Mica Hardware) today from 12:00 to 19:30 and tomorrow 09:00 to 15:00. For further information please contact Claudette Arends on 871-1030.
* Please note that WP Blood Transfusion Service does not discriminate against any donor on a racial basis. All donors who meet the donation criteria are welcome.
