I HAVE now been staying for about two months in Paarl East, in Klein Drakenstein Road, and it seems to me that recklessness and selfishness is all around my home.
Not only during the night, but especially between 10 pm and 12 pm, some drivers are speeding and racing up and down and around the area with cars which have no proper silencer. Not a single night is without such danger and unbearable noises.
I don’t refer to the normal traffic - it is unnecessary that trucks pass through this part of the town or that cars speed along as if it is a freeway or “autobahn”.
I heard the statements from the Traffic Department in which they promised strict actions against those drivers, but I can’t see them in Klein Drakenstein Road.
It’s not enough to patrol. Officers have to leave their cars and stand near the road so they can watch and hear certain drivers who disturb the peace even if the shift of the traffic police is over.
Why can’t there be a few humps across the road like in other parts of the town?
The traffic signs show “60” but those drivers just ignore the signs and the cameras. Why? Are these cameras fake?
On pension days the front of our property becomes a wild, loud and dirty taxi rank. People drop their rubbish where they walk or stand.
Taxi drivers empty their ashtrays in front of the house.
People sit on the wall of the property or sell all kinds of things in front of the driveway.
These and more annoying things happen four to five days every month! It should be stopped.
Please stop the racing and speeding on Klein Drakenstein Road in Paarl; please control the taxis and other cars during grant payment days in Klein Drakenstein Road!
