THREE dynamos at SAPS Training Institution Paarl have been rewarded for their compelling vision of where they want the institution to go. Senior Superintendent Charlotte Kotzé (Institution Commander) and Captains Henk van Vuuren and Lizelle Turk received awards for excellent performance in December last year. This is no mean feat, as the South African Police Service has 22 training institutions country-wide. Senior Superintendent Kotzé received the trophy for the best commander and Captain Henk van Vuuren for the best training facilitator. In both categories the assessment categories included leadership ability, communication, service orientation, integrity and commitment. Captain Lizelle Turk was rewarded for her outstanding work as past chairperson of the SAPS Paarl Women’s Network. This association strives to make a difference in the community by way of various projects. This has resulted in caring involvement in Huis Rusthof, Island of Hope, the Bowey Home for HIV babies, the Haven and the Kerith Retreat. The Paarl Institution has a staff corps of 132. Since March 2009 this industrious campus saw to the successful training of 1 352 SAPS members from all provinces. In the past five years more than 9 000 men and women in blue have travelled to Paarl for further honing of their management skills. Courses presented at Paarl are the Executive Development Leadership Programme (EDLP) which was launched in 2009 for senior managers in the SAPS, the Internal Administration Efficiency Programme (IAE) for officers, and the Junior Management Leadership Programme (JMLP) for captains and inspectors. Says a proud Senior Superintendent Kotzé, “This motivates us to work harder and to raise our standards even higher. We are indeed a dignified blue line here in Paarl.”
