Robin Moore’s Walk of the Winelands

Robin Moore’s Walk of the Winelands

2010-01-21

IN aid of local cricket academy in Mbekweni, a founding member of The Barmy Army, Englishman Robin Moore, will go on a 7-day ‘walk of the Winelands’.

Moore has walked over 33 000 km, raised over a million Rand and has written many books about his adventures, supporting cricket whenever possible.

The Barmy Army, passionate supporters of England’s test cricket sides, recently raised R10 000 for a township cricket club at Rondebosch.

“At present I am working with local cricket coach Merwe Genis to help equip the Mbekweni Cricket Academy with adequate gear to enjoy and improve this wonderful sport of cricket,” Moore said.

“We strongly believe that the spirit created within the cricket school will help forge friendships and good social bonding within the township.”

Monthly costs work out at roughly R32 per child at the Genis’s coaching Clinic at Mbekweni, therefore Moore welcomes any donations (food, equipment, coaching, funds) to aid this cause.

Moore started his ‘Walk of the Winelands’ yesterday, walking from Paarl to Wellington while delivering leaflets.

The entire walk will take about seven days, and will go through Paarl, Wellington, Ceres, Worcester, Franschhoek, and Stellenbosch.

Anyone wishing to help can contact Merwe Genis (082-575-7107) or Tony of the Manyano Methodist Centre (021-872-2537).
