Cape vernacular music at Solms-Delta

Cape vernacular music at Solms-Delta

2010-02-04

THE crowds will be entertained by Oom Jakobus and Tannie Hester Cloete with their own special style of Cape vernacular music, at the Rural Cape Music Supper Concert at Solms-Delta on Saturday 6 February.

Born to a musical family in Namaqualand, Jakobus first learned to play the sheepgut-string ‘ramkietjie’ and later, the guitar.

He and his sister Hester will play and sing their original, traditional story-telling songs that are so much an intrinsic part of the musical heritage of the Cape.

And the music and voices of talented local Delta Langbroek Band and women’s choir Delta Soetstemme, will also add to a toe-tapping, foot-stomping evening of the inimitable sounds of the rural Cape.

The concert starts at 18:00.

Tickets are R150 per person including a ‘Kaapse kos’ buffet catering for all tastes. For children tickets cost R65.

For bookings and more information, contact Annalize on 021-874-3937.
