THROUGH Paarl Post I would like to thank the Drakenstein Municipality Waste Services for placing a glass bank at the SAPS Boland Detective Academy to counter any possible littering that occurred there in the past as reported on in Paarl Post (28/2/10).
The primary aim of the SAPS is to ensure the safety and security of all people in South Africa. It, however, also strives to contribute to an environment - be it in a rural district, town or city - that is neat, clean and hygienic. Both the SAPS Paarl Training Institution (which is in Main Street) and the SAPS Detective Academy Boland (in Botha Avenue), support this endeavour.
This means that we also want to counter littering. Co-operation between municipalities and the SAPS - as has been exemplified by the Drakenstein Municipality - will help us greatly in practising what we preach.
In a different vein, we are dismayed about the derogatory snippet in Hearsay (Paarl Post 28/2/10) about the alleged littering of beer bottles by SAPS members attending courses at the Detective Academy Boland.
Rest assured that if individual members do, indeed, litter, they will be corrected and properly trained.Senior Superintendent Charlotte Kotzé Commander: SAPS Training Institution Paarl
