Loop Street property should go

Loop Street property should go

2010-02-11

WITH reference to the letter published in the Paarl Post dated 4 February, it’s ironic that people comment on the history and future of the dilapidated Loop Street property, without first obtaining the correct information.

No high rise apartment buildings were ever planned to be developed on the premises.

During the past 40 years, the current owners never attempted to rezone the property, nor submitted any plans to further develop the property.

The building was bought for investment purposes only, and it was always leased for residential use.

When part of the property became vacant, vagrants unlawfully started occupying the premises, and subsequently vandalised the building.

At the request of the Municipality, the owners repeatedly removed unlawful occupants from the premises, and secured the building.

These actions did not stop the vagrants from finding alternative means to get access to the building.

Kindly visit the Paarl police station to confirm to numerous request from the owners, to remove all unlawful residents from the property.

Although the police always co-operated, their action taken was never sustainable.

A structural engineer’s report confirms that the building is unsafe, for any person entering.

It’s in the best interest of the people occupying the building, the neighbouring residents and Paarl in general, that the building be demolished as soon as possible.

The owners have invested ample time and money to obtain such permission, without success.

It is presumed that such approval is being delayed by a small group of people, who comment on property matters before consulting with the landlord.Giepie Brandt
