THE De Poort Heritage Centre in Paarl South will be open to the public on Saturday from 10:00.
The Mayor will officiate in a grand wagon procession starting at 11:00.
Entry tickets are R25 (R10 per child or pensioner), but discounted family tickets (for 4) at R75 can be purchased beforehand.
Attractions include carts and horses competitions throughout the day in the arena; an exciting carriage driving obstacle event, horse and dog competition by riders from the Evergreen Stables, singing by children of the Frank Pietersen School, a trio of string instruments, the Solms Delta band and choir, the Starlight minstrel group, a boereorkes, boules, jukskei and children’s heritage games, a puppet show, food stalls and there will also be many heritage crafters.
The Scouts will build their trek cart and challenge the public. They are also building a rope bridge between two trees.
The heritage crafters are demonstrating handicrafts like lace-making, embroidery, beading, wirework, mosaic work, blacksmithing, woodturning, brass working and leather craft. There will also be an organic market with fresh herbs, plants and preserves, homemade breads and more, while Schoongezicht Estate will operate a café/deli. For tickets, contact 021-863-2871.
