AFTER the Competition Tribunal recently imposed a penalty of R195,718 million on food giant Pioneer for its role in a bread cartel, the Competition Commission has appealed against this penalty and asked for a 10% fine on the total revenue of Pioneer Foods. This could add up to R1,5 billion.
The Competition Tribunal imposed the penalty on the group recently for its involvement in a bread cartel that included four major bakeries which produce Albany, Blue Ribbon and Sunbake loaves. Discussions continue.
