Nederburg on a winning note
2010-03-11
NEDERBURG has won its first gold medal of the year at the 2010 Berliner Wein Trophy Awards for a 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon in the range, as well as a silver for a 2009 Sauvignon Blanc. Both wines are sold in South Africa as part of the Winemaster’s Collection Reserve tier. The organisation, accredited by the Organisation Internationale de la Vigne et du Vin is one of the leading international events of its kind staged in Germany, one of Nederburg’s key export markets. The winery, which last year was judged South Africa’s most successful producer on the International Wine & Spirit Competition in London, as well as the top performer on the 2009 Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show, has been steadily building its presence in many other countries too. This applies not only elsewhere in Europe as well as in Africa, but also more recently in the Americas and parts of Asia. According to marketing manager Rudolph du Toit, last year’s agreement signed with FIFA, entitling the winery to market a range of specially produced offerings for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, is seeing the brand capture the imagination of a newer audience, football enthusiasts. Currently, the most popular destination for the three specially labelled wines, featuring the FIFA logo, is Finland, followed by Brazil, the Netherlands, Canada, Japan and Germany.
