Have fun at Franschhoek harvest celebration

Have fun at Franschhoek harvest celebration

2010-03-11

TO celebrate the end of the wine harvest (harvest is Vendange in French), make your way to Franschhoek for the inaugural Vendange Celebration on Saturday 13 March.

In keeping with the French heritage and true to tradition, a long and exceptionally colourful harvest table will be set up in the centre of the town, welcoming locals and visitors to sit down to a sumptuous feast.

A traditionally bountiful French inspired feast of mouth-watering delights, prepared by some of the village’s passionate chefs, awaits. Guests will also get the opportunity to mingle with some of Franschhoek’s well-known and award-winning winemakers and sample the area’s finest wines.

There will also be grape stomping, with just under a ton of grapes available for this popular festival activity.

As Franschhoek has so much to offer, visitors are encouraged to come early and make the most of the celebrations.

Tickets to this unforgettable event cost R550 per person (R450 per person for Franschhoek locals).

Visit the Franschhoek Info Centre or contact Carmen on 021-876-2861 or office@franschhoek.org.za for ticket purchases, times or any other queries.

* Other Harvest Festival activities will take place at the Grande Provence Wine Estate in Franschhoek from 09:00.

The day, which promises a great deal of laughter, commences with coffee and muffins. This is followed by a tour of the vineyards where visitors help harvest the grapes accompanied by award-winning winemaker, Jaco Marais.

Entertainment continues the celebrations and is followed by a game of boules afterwards. The cost for the day is R290 (R130 for children under 12) and included in the price is a bottle of wine per adult. Guests are advised to bring a hat, protective sunscreen and a change of clothing for those planning to take part in the actual grape stomping. For reservations, contact Nicole Bisschoff on 021-876-8600.

For other Harvest Festival celebrations, contact the Franschhoek Tourism office on 021-876-2861.
