Boland team to SA Youth and Junior Champs

BOLAND ATHLETICS announced a preliminary team of 62 athletes consisting of 33 boys and 29 girls to represent Boland Athletics at the SA Youth & Junior Championships from 10 to 11 April in Germiston. The Boland Athletics selectors will still be monitoring performances of youth and junior athletes until Saturday 13 March when the Western Cape High Schools Championships takes place at the Dal Josaphat Stadium in Paarl. In the preliminary Boland Youth & Junior team are 11 athletes who won medals at the 2009 SA Youth & Junior Championships. They are Melissa Hewitt, Shaun de Jager, Luvo Manyonga, Dominique Scott, Christian Norman, Maryke Brits, Taahirah Kozain, Inge Kotze, Jean-Marie Senekal, Ruan Van Wyk and Ciani Loubser. All eyes will no doubt be on Luvo Manyonga who experienced a very successful 2010 season to date. He won a silver medal in 2009 at the SA Junior Championships and the SA Senior Championships with a personal best of 7,65m in the long jump. This year he has already succeeded with a jump of 7,90m and a wind assisted 8,05m in the long jump. The athletes will attempt to qualify for the 13th IAAF World Junior Championships in Canada in July as well for the first ever Youth Olympic Games which will take place in August in Singapore.
