Five people narrowly escaped
2010-03-18
FIVE people narrowly escaped death last Wednesday night when the car they were travelling in collided with a tree. The accident happened at 18:25 on the Keerweder Road near Rosendal Farm. Of the five people in the car only the driver, Deon Williams, and one passenger suffered serious injuries and they were taken to Paarl Hospital. Williams was transferred to Tygerberg Hospital and there are fears that he may be crippled permanently due to a back injury. The SAPD Paarl is currently investigating a case of negligent driving and is waiting for toxicology report to determine if any additional investigations will be opened. As yet the police cannot determine the cause of the accident because there are “too many stories flying around”, but according to one eyewitness, it appeared as if the car was coming down the public road in reverse gear and at a high speed. The vehicle then started spinning and there was a lot of dust, before they ended up in the ditch. - Chris Snyman
