BEWARE of car thieves, the police in Wellington warn. During the past week, one vehicle was stolen and there were three other attempted thefts.

On Sunday afternoon, an attempt was made to steal a car in Sagwityi Street. While the complainant was buying a cooldrink at a house shop, he turned around and saw his vehicle, a white Toyota minibus, moving.

He ran after the vehicle to see the suspect crash the vehicle. He then detained the suspect and contacted the police.

On Friday, also during the day, a white Nissan bakkie was stolen from the Wellington Railway Station, while the owner commuted to work by train.

And in the early hours of Friday morning, the police noted a deserted Toyota Corolla while patrolling in the area of Palm Avenue.

The owner of the vehicle was contacted and informed that his vehicle was standing a little further down the road.

On further investigation it was established that an attempt had been made to steal the vehicle. The lock and ignition had been damaged.

No suspects have been arrested with regards to this incident.

On Saturday evening thieves tried to steal an Isuzu bakkie in Kempen Street. The two suspects jumped out of the bakkie and ran away when they were confronted by the owner.

The public is requested to report any suspicious activity to the Wellington Police Station at 021-864-8440.
