Harvest Festival at Solms-Delta

Harvest Festival at Solms-Delta

2010-03-18

THE third annual Franschhhoek Harvest Festival, a rousing feast of big name entertainers, local music groups and local cuisine will be held at the Solms-Delta Wine Estate on Saturday 27 March (11:00-21:00) with an exciting line-up of local favourites performing their music.

Headline acts include Emo Adams, the witty Cape Flats born-and-bred actor and singer of “District 6: The Musical” fame, and The Radio Kalahari Orkes that incorporates the unlikely musical talents of actor Ian Roberts and writer/poet Rian Malan. The Radio Kalahari Orkes with its music born from solid working class Afrikaans roots with classic Roberts’ tongue-in-cheek and razor-sharp social commentary, is receiving popular acclaim.

On the homefront, adding their own toe-tapping brand of Cape vernacular music will be Solms-Delta’s women’s choir, the Delta Soetstemme, a brass, guitar and vocal ensemble - the Delta Langbroek Band, the Delta Bluestars brass and minstrel band and the evergreen locals, the Papier Family Langarm Band.

In the line-up are the Papier Family Langarm Orkes (11:00), Jakobus and Hester Cloete (11:40, featuring Grabouw Rieldansers), Delta Bluestars (12:20; 14:10 and 16:55, offstage), Mac McKenzie and Ghoema Orkes (12:35), Franschhoek Farmworker Awards (13:05), Delta Allstars featuring Soetstemme and Langbroeke (13:20), Pieter van der Westhuizen and tannie Grietjie at 14:25 (featuring Witzenberg Rieldansers), Hannes Coetzee (15:20), Les Javan en Nonspesifiek (16:15), Negosiegoed (17:10) Boeremusiek guild showcase band, Grabouw Rieldansers (17:50), Radio Kalahari Orkes (18:10), Witzenberg Rieldansers (19:00), Emo Adams (19:20) and Robbie Jansen (20:25).

Gates open at 10:00. Tickets are available through webtickets.co.za, at the farm or Franschhoek Tourism office (R160 per person including meal vouchers). Food stalls will serve traditional Kaapsekos throughout the day and a cash bar for wine and soft drinks will be available. Entry is free for children under six and half price for under 12 years.
