Pre-paid electricity the way to go
2010-04-01
PRE-PAID electricity is the way to go, judging by the rate increases planned in the draft municipal budget for 2010/2011 approved last week. Residents of Drakenstein who make use of pre-paid electricity are facing an increase of 20% in electricity rates, while conventional users will pay 26,5% more per unit from 1 July. Property rates will increase by 6%, water by 10%, sanitation by 7%, refuse removal by 7% and other sundry tariffs by 7,5%. The draft budget is now available for public comment and will be part of the Draft Integrated Development Plan (IDP) roadshow that will be held for the next month. Residents are invited to give their inputs on the IDP and the draft budget. The final budget must be approved in May and will come into effect on 1 July.
