STYLE-IT-YOURSELF is the new DIY and make-it-myself the mantra of the moment.

At Decorex Cape Town, taking place at the CTICC from 23 to 27 April, trends point towards a fresh new take on self-help on the home front.

Buzz words range from decor detox and home rehab to upcycling-transforming has-beens and the useless into coveted decor pieces.

Held in association with Plascon and DStv, the show is a hotbed of captivating new shapes and forms ranging from modern collectibles to the kitchen sink.

Discover dream rooms, the SA Handmade Collection with high-end craft, wall tattoos, eco-caring kitchens, water-friendly bathrooms and even a planet- saving house sprouting green products.

Bright ideas, awesome show bargains and free expert advice blend with urban-chic spaces, newly launched fabric fashions and bold new colours of the season.

Melanie Robinson, Decorex exhibition director hand-picks show highlights for the decor enthusiasts: Talk trends with the dream room divas; spot inspiring ways to add impact, value and style to your space with this forward-looking collection of high end exhibitors- from established design icons to new names, fabric houses to retailers, captivating roomscapes and new reveals.

Make-it-myself novices should make their way to the new Make Theatre. Hosted by DIY-celeb Aidan Bennetts, the theatre reflects the upsurge in home renovation, edgy DIY and frugal chic with free how-to workshops ranging from modern mosaics and contemporary paint techniques to upholstery-made-easy and wall tattooing.

Paint-it-yourselver should note that the new design direction on everybody’s lips is the way Africa has become a major source of inspiration for the design world, here and abroad. The African influence is most evident in the Plascon of this year Colour Forecast on show at Decorex Cape Town.

On display will be the work of 10 finalists in the Western Cape Furniture Design Competition. The theme LIVE inspires a creative take on furniture forming part of living environments, such as tables, chairs, couches and beds used in indoor and outdoor living spaces.

Tickets are R55 for adults. Entrance on opening day, 23rd April, is free for pre-registered trade and R45 for public. For show hours, theatre schedules and bookings visit www.decorex.co.za
