Municipal roadshow on budget kicks off

ON 31 March the Municipal Draft Integrated Development Plan (IDP) for 2010/11 and the draft mid-term budget review for 2010-2013 were launched at the Thusong Service Centre in Mbekweni. This public launch served as an official opening of the roadshow, to which municipal officials, councillors, sector representatives of the government departments and the public were invited. The community was invited as key stakeholder in the review process of the IDP & Budget. Legislation requires that there must be a strong linkage between review of IDP and the annual municipal budgeting process and that communities must be afforded an opportunity to review their needs and to make possible changes to the priorities listed in the Municipality’s IDP. After Council’s adoption of the Draft IDP 2010/11 and Mid Term Budget Review 2010/13, a public participation process was, and is still open for public to give inputs and comments.Thereafter those comments will be incorporated into the Final IDP & Budget. The purpose of public participation through the roadshow (a series of public meetings throughout Drakenstein( is to ensure that the voice of the community is heard and their inputs give meaning to all municipal planning activities.
