AS of April, all wines produced by KWV in 2010 will feature a new seal indicating certification for both Wine of Origin (WO) and Integrated Production of Wine (IPW). This move is in support of the initiative launched this month by the Wine and Spirit Board and Wines of South Africa (WOSA).
The seal incorporates two points of differentiation to set South African wines apart from its competitors in the global market. From the 2010 vintage, KWV will implement the new seal across all its brands.
“As an important point of differentiation for our global consumer, the WO certification assures that all aspects of production, processing and packaging of our wines are conducted in a sustainable manner,” says Karin O’Donoghue, Global category manager wines.
“This certification means that consumers will be able to trace every bottle of wine to its source.”
IPW is a voluntary environmental sustainability scheme that complies with international wine industry environmental sustainability criteria. The new seal guarantees the integrity of origin, vintage year and cultivar, and sustainable production practices from the vineyard to bottling, including carbon emissions, light and noise pollution, the usage of chemicals and water, transportation of grapes, staff training and the conservation of soil, rivers and wetlands.
