THE community of Paarl has been shocked by the tragic death of a much loved elderly resident in a collision in the CBD. Margaret Sikora (83) of Huis Vergenoegd retirement home was returning from central Paarl on Wednesday afternoon after visiting her doctor. When she turned right from Breda Street into the Berg River Boulevard, a Mercedes Benz smashed into the side of her car. Sikora died on impact. Members of the community who have known her for many years, were distraught this week about the tragic manner in which she died. Sikora had lived in Paarl for almost 40 years. She was well known in church circles and was especially known for her charity work, which was her passion. Many years ago she would venture into amongst others Mbekweni to assist the needy, even in times of unrest. “She never thought of herself, but rather of her fellow man,” said her distraught daughter, Beverly Vollgraaff, this week. “She was always out to help others. Even in her old age, she would visit patients in the frail care centres of Huis Vergenoegd and Rusoord. “And if somebody needed a lift somewhere, my mother was there to help. “She was a true ambassador of mankind and touched many peoples’ lives.” Sikora is survived by two sons, Mark and Michael Sikora, daughters Margot McCumisky and Beverly Vollgraaff, ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
