SUPERLATIVE wines from some of South Africa’s most sought-after wineries will be on offer at the Nedbank Cape Winemakers Guild Public Auction on Saturday 1 October at Spier from 09:00.
The 36 Members of the Cape Winemakers Guild create wines especially for their annual Auction, which is open to the public.
Approximately 2 500 cases of wine, exclusive to the Auction, will be available in lots ranging in size from 12 to 48 bottles. The Auction runs from 09:00 to 14:00 with refreshments being served all day.
There is a strong fundraising element to the Auction in the form of a Silent Auction, consisting of exquisitely packaged rare and handcrafted wines prepared by the Guild Members for this occasion.
Bidding is by anonymous (silent) tender, throughout the Auction week, with bids closing just after the Auction on Saturday 1 October.
Funds raised by the Silent Auction will be donated to the Nedbank CWG Development Trust, founded in 1999 to assist with the social, education and training needs of disadvantaged communities within the winegrowing regions of South Africa.
Simultaneously, the Guild Members’ Charity Auction takes place, which represents the collective efforts of the Members of the Guild.
This year, three separate items will be offered as individual lots during the course of the Auction on Saturday 1 October.
This year’s unique offerings comprise a collection of 35 past Auction wines signed by the members of the Guild and two 12-litre bottles of wine containing different blends of wines produced by the members of the CWG.
The auction will be preceded by four fabulous Master Class Tastings: Five Star Sauvignon, Super Shiraz, Bold Blends and Stunning Sparklers and a pre-auction tutored tasting. Visit www.capewinemakersguild.com.
